Tonsil Stones, also known as tonsilloliths, white globs, smelly white things, throat blobs, and throat ulcers are a major cause of bad breath. Tonsil stones can cause you breath to smell really bad. The smell tonsil stones can omit has been compared to the smell of feces ( poo ). If you suffer from tonsil stones and someone has told you that your breath “smells like shit”, they were probably right on the money.

tonsil stonesIf you have tonsil stones in your throat, odds are thet your life is negatively affected in many ways. You may find yourself brushing your teeth too long and too many times during the day. Brushing your teeth constantly will not help you rid the tonsil stones and can be very bad for your gums. If you have tonsil stones, you may find yourself gargling many times throughout the day and night, using both mouth wash and even warm, salty water. Gargling excessively will not cure tonsil stones, prevent tonsil stones, stop tonsil stones, or rid tonsil stones.

In the morning, a person with tonsil stones can notice thet their breath smells really bad. Yes, people with tonsil stones can actually smell and taste their own breath because it is so bad. A ritual will begin for a person suffering from tonsil stones. In the morning, a person with tonsil stones fears the rest of the day, fears meeting people and having to speak to them in person, afraid that they will notice how bad their breath smells. In the morning, a person with tonsil stones will brush long and hard, will gargle for a really long time, and will cough and hack excessively to tray and break up the tonsil stones. The worst is when a tonsil stones breaks free and you put it on your finger and smell the little white, yellowish blob and realize just how aweful it smells. This is probably the worst, and best part in a person with tonsil stones day. It’s the worst because the person with tonsil stones gets a shot of reality in that they really do have these little disgusting things in the back of their throat. It’s the best because after coughing a tonsil stone up, the person with the tonsil stones has this false hope that it will be the last tonsil stone they will have which is completely not true unless they take action and use products specifically designed to cure tonsil stones like Therabreath’s Extinguisher Spray, Nasal-Sinus Drops, Nasal-Sinus Spray, Power Drops, AktivOxigen Serum, AktivOxigen Tablets, and TheraBreath Oral Rinse.

If you use a magnified mirror, or, shine a light down into your throat in a regular mirror, you will most probably be able to see your tonsil stone(s). They will be little yellowish-white globs or balls stuck down in the back of your throat. DO NOT TRY TO SCRAPE OFF TONSIL STONES FROM YOUR THROAT. This can cause serious harm. those stinkers are stuck to your throat really well and will come loose when they’re ready. Attempting to scrape of your tonsil stones or making a habit of scraping or picking off your tonsil stones can lead to serious damage to your throat. There’s a defeinite possibility that heavy bleeding will occur.

I’ve written this article based on my readings on the internet about tonsil stones and my own personal experience with tonsil stones. Here is my unprofessional advice on a routine you can follow to give you the best chance of curing your tonsil stones and having a fresh, clean, hydrated mouth.

Tips for better breath and limited or eliminating tonsil stones.

Sleeping - Try to make sure your mouth is closed when you fall asleep and that you are only breathing through your nose. Blow your nose before bed and if your nose is stuffy, take some medicine (see doctor first). Sleeping with my mouth closed seems to keep my mouth more hydrated when I wake up and helps my throat alot. When I sleep with my mouth closed all night, I don’t find that my throat (or the thought of more tonsil stones in my throat) bothers me nearly as much. Before sleeping I always do a pre-rinse with AktivOxygen, brush with therabreath tooth gel and a soft bristle tooth brush, rinse with therabreath plus oral rinse, and finish off with either a nasal squirt in each nostril (it’s not bad at all) with Therabreath Nasal Spray.

In the Morning - Before going to work I ususally take a hot shower. In the shower I find myself “hacking” sometimes when I think I feel (or taste) a tonsil stone. I then do the same brushing and rinsing routine as above and then in my pocket I bring with me a pack of ZOX MINTS, and either my throat spray or my sinus drops. Since I’ve been using Therabreath products (past 2 1/2 years) I can only remeber about 5 times that I’ve had a tonsil stone come up. It seems my Therabreath products are not allowing them to build up.

After Lunch or When I get home - I like to do my brushing and rinsing routine either right after lunch or right when I get home. I try to make sure I’ve finished eating completely until the next meal before I brush and rinse.

All throughout the day, any and every day - I always drink lots of water now. Keeping hydrated means that you will have less of a dry mouth (dry mouth causes odor) and I pop a ZOX mint here and their to make sure my mouth is wet and smells unoffensive.

Here are a few little tips about bad breath and tonsil stones that you may be unaware of:

Drinking alcoholic beverages causes your mouth to become very dry and can lead to your breath smelling very bad. If you’re going to drink, make sure you’ve done your oral hygiene routine right before and that you have some zox mints or extinguisher spray with you.

Smoking Cigarettes will stop fresh breath in it’s tracks. Not only do cigarettes smell bad and cause yellowing of teath, they can cause a white tongue (sign that hydration and ph balance is way off) and “hairy tongue” (a buildup of bacteria that makes the tongue appear to be hairy), but they can also lead to tooth loss, gingivitis, mouth ulcers, mouth cancer, and overall poor health. Do yourself a favor and stop smoking or at least knock your smoking down to just on occassions (that’s a good place to start).
