What causes Morning Breath

Here’s what causes morning breath and how you can prevent it easily.

Approximately 35% of the world’s population has a chronic, noticeable breath condition which usually leads them to seek help from a dentist or doctor. This group of people has bad breath concerns all day long, every day, including food odors, taste disorders, dry mouth, and course morning breath.

Another 35% are considered “borderline” meaning that their breath feels and smells fresh throughout the day, but they can become chronic if they eat certain foods (dairy, alcohol, sugars), after taking medication (antihistamines, antidepressants, high blood pressure medication), and always when they wake up, in other words, morning breath.

The remaining 30% rarely worry about bad breath. The only exceptions are when they eat garlic and onions, or upon waking which is known as morning breath.

So, what causes morning breath?

In almost all instances, a dry mouth is a smelly mouth. A mouth lacking moisture breeds bacteria which can cause bad breath in the morning. During sleep, human’s salivary glands slow down or in the case of many older people, shut down completely, because our brain knows we are not eating. This lack of saliva combined with the constant flow of air (which is greatly increased by poeple who breathe through their mouths, over our palate makes for a very DRY environment on the tongue, within the oral cavity, and in the throat. These dry areas are the breeding grounds of the anaerobic (without oxygen) sulfur producing bacteria that cause bad breath and taste disorders, and thus, when we awake we have morning breath. Saliva is nature’s way of protecting us from bad breath because healthy saliva contains high concentrations of oxygen, the natural enemy of anaerobic bacteria.

What most people don’t know is that morning breath is NOT something you have to live with!

The key to stopping morning breath is to find a way to stop the production of those volatile sulfur compounds (VSC’s) during the night as you are asleep. One way would be to increase the production of saliva within the back of your throat and mouth during the course of the night. This however is very difficult to do, after all you’re asleep! Those of us who are mouth breathers are drying out the back of our throats with each breath we take throughout the night.

A better, and easier way, is to stop the production of bad breath sulfur compounds by the bacteria that create morning breath. How do you do this? I recommend using what are called “AktivOxigen tablets“. These tablets are small, highly concentrated morning breath eliminators. When dropped into water, they create a POWERFUL, unflavored oral rinse that will destroy the morning breath bacteria on contact. This rinse is also effective because it is a rinse that you can swallow which allows the solution to coat the back of your throat and tonsils. Using the rinse prior to bedtime, allowing the solution to work for the entire night, virtually eliminates morning breath.

Using the product above, you can stop morning breath. Now you know the cause for morning breath and the causes for morning breath and what you can do to stop having morning breath. No longer does your wife, husband, brother, sister, girlfriend, boyfriend or friend have to suffer with morning breath. It’s easy to help your friend or tell anyone that they have bad breath or just morning breath. How to tell someone they have bad breath or how to tell someone they have morning breath the right way without hurtint their feelings is not a hard thing to do and we show you how to tell someone they have bad breat or tell someone they have morning breath.

Not to scare you, but your bad breath could lead to your family cashing out your term life insurance, so I hope you have good coverage from an “A” rated company.

While oral hygiene products like Therabreath, which I promote on this site, can be great remedies for chronic bad breath, do keep in mind your bad breath could be caused by gum disease. That being said, you might want to consider consulting a dentist to be sure you don’t have gum disease. Gum disease has been linked to both heart attacks and strokes. There are far worse symptoms than bad breath. one symptom could be a blod clot which could go to your heart and cause a heart attack. This clot could also go to your brain and cause a stroke.

Recently I spoke to a woman who found the useful Therabreath products she found on this site, thanked me for providing such a helpful bad breath blog, and then told me an interesting story of the future procedures she’d endure to improve her health both mentally and physically. These procedures involved treatment for removal of her “spider veins”. I didn’t even know such an option was available. She asked me to help her find a vein clinic to perform such a treatment, and this is what I told her, which lead her to the Sacramento vein center.

A new tool at Vein-Treatment.com is available to direct you to the nearest trusted vein clinic. To use the tool correctly and effectively, you only need to enter in your zip code. From here, the tool performs its magic. For example, if you lived in or around Sacramento, California, the tool would produce results to direct you to the nearest vein clinic doctor. In this example, the Dr. would be Dr. Conti. over at Advanced Vein Care. Believe it or not, with today’s advancements in medicine, your varicose veins can be fixed at a vein clinic rather than a traditional hospital. There are many choices of vein clinics today and this tool will point you in the right direction. Vein stripping is obsolete. There’s no more need for a major vein surgery with all the associated pain, possible complications, and side-effects. In the modern world, a simple procedure from a good vein clinic will resolve your vein worries. Today’s procedures for veins are minimally invasive and include ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy. This procedure is meant for the removal of “spider veins”.

What’s most difficult is for the normal person to be able to find the right vein clinic. This is exactly what this helpful tool was made for. Professional and experienced staff members are just a few key strokes and a click away!

Tonsil stones are little white globs on your tonsils or in the back of your throat that can and will make your breath smell bad…really, really bad. These little while globs are actually a combination of old food particles that attach attach to the back of your throat. Until you can get tonsil stones neutralized or broken loose, they build up larger and larger meaning they smell worse and worse. The odor can be compared to that of feces. Think about it. This is old food, including meat, cheese, nuts, or anything else that decides to join the party, just sitting there, rotting, in the back of your throat. The odor is expelled through both your mouth and nose. This odor makes you have terribly bad breath and is offense to everyone around you. You don’t have to have your tonsils to get tonsil stones. Though having your tonsils certainly doesn’t help the matter.

Therabreath makes some fantastic products to help neutralize and break up tonsil stones. Therabreath works on tonsil stones.

Here is my own, personal combination of bad breath products to prevent my breath from smelling from tonsil stones.

I’m a man who has battled with having bouts of bad breath since I was a child. When I was younger, my dad used to tell me my breath “smelled like shit” and would constantly ask me, “did you brush your teeth today?” I didn’t realize there was a real problem with my oral hygiene, I just thought my breath smelled from eating and not brushing after or from not brushing long enough. (Why is it kids don’t like to take baths or brush their teeth?)

When I was a teenager, I was told once or twice, that I can remember, that my breath stinks. At one point, in my teenage years, I was referred to as “stank breath” which was the reason why I created this site and named it such. As a young adult, a girlfriend pointed out that I had bad breath. In her words, during an argument that led to a breakup, she said to me “…and your breath f*cking stinks.” At this point, I realized I has a very real problem with bad breath.

I have been somewhat obsessing about my oral hygiene now for the past 6 years. I always have gum in my mouth and I floss, brush, and rinse many times each day. I used to find it very difficult to talk face to face with people, especially women. My worrying about having bad breath or not transformed into a somewhat of a social disorder. It should be noted I have a family history involving mental disorders, bipolar to name one, which I believe contributed to my downward spiral into isolation.

To be social, I would drink heavily and even pop anti-anxiety medication that wasn’t prescribed to me. Soon, I started to take xanax just get get through the work day AND before any social functions. Before I knew if, I was hooked on xanax. I finally realized I had a problem when I ran out one night and my supplier didn’t have anymore to sell to me. I didn’t go to work for 3 days because of this. Luckily, I didn’t lose my job.

I ‘m lucky because it only took myself to realize there was something wrong with me taking 1-3 xanax just to get through a day. Unfortunately, many people who are abusing drugs need much more help than that.

Shortly after I stopped taking these pills, I found out about Therabreath, which has done wonders for me. I no longer worry compulsively or obsessively about my breath.

If you live in Michigan , there’s a non-profit rehab facility that can help.
Michigan drug rehab

If you don’t live in Michigan, just google drug rehab [state] and you’ll certainly find a help center.

Throw your toothbrush away. The new Sensonic Waterpik Professional Electronic Toothbrush is awesome!

This is toothbrush technology on steroids! Therabreath, the company that Dr. Katz founded, has shown it’s support for the Waterpik Sensonic Professional electronic toothbrush. This review will summarize what Dr. Katz has posted on his website about the Sensonic Waterpik. After reading, I must say, I am very convinced that this may be the best sonic toothbrush on the market.

Dr. Katz first describes the feel of the toothbrush. While not too heavy or bulky, it did have the feel of a sturdy, high quality, mechanical build. That sounds to me like it definitely didn’t feel like a cheap plastic toy like some of those sub $10 electric toothbrushes. This is important because if you’re going to make this type of investment (retail $120 [click here to take $25 off AND get free shipping]) in your oral hygiene, you’re not going to want some piece of crap toothbrush that will die out on you or break within just a few months. This electronic sonic toothbrush sounds like it’s built to last.

Now before we get into how Dr. Katz describes the experience of actually using this toothbrush, let’s talk about the features.

Rechargeable lithium ion battery included. With the base plugged into a 120v wall outlet, the toothbrush will recharge on it’s of when docked.

2minute timer. It’s actually 4 x 30 second reminders. This is to help brushers spend 30 seconds on each quadrant of the mouth. It’s been shown in studies that people don’t spend nearly enough time brushing their teeth. 2 minutes is the standard time recommended by dentists and other health professionals. So, with this sonic toothbrush, imagine the benefits to your oral health that can be achieved by using a toothbrush that will not only help you brush for the full 2 minutes but will also provide brushing power and an overall brush stroke that will far exceed your normal brushing habits and routine.

2 colored brush heads. Use one for yourself and one for a spouse or child. If you do not wish to share your new waterpik sensonic, you will find that you now have a spare or extra brush head to extend the return on your investment and postpone any further investment in your oral health. Additional brush heads can be purchased easily online and in some retail stores.

Two speed settings. “Low” provides gentle cleaning action for a softer brushing and gum massaging experience. “High” is used for superior teeth cleaning and removal of plaque.

Recharge indicator light. If you take your new sonic toothbrush on the go, there is a light that will let you know that it would be a good idea to charge your toothbrush before it dies out on you.

Dr. Katz states that his first personal teeth cleaning experience with the Waterpik Sensonic was “extremely easy”. After unboxing, he plugged the unit in for a while to charge it and soon thereafter he placed a brush head on the base of the toothbrush and was ready to brush. Dr. Katz gave out a few pointers for using this power toothbrush. First, remember to turn the toothbrush off (after your two minutes is up) inside of your mouth. If you remove this power brush with toothpaste or tooth gel on it, there’s a good chance that this thing will fling tooth paste on your mirror, shirt, etc. Remember, this thing is powerful. It would take an advanced, high-speed camera to show you just how many strokes per minute (spm) this thing delivers. It’s truly amazing. Next, [he] recommends using a tooth gel and not a standard toothpaste. Standard toothpaste contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate isn’t good for your mouth in the first place. When a tooth paste that contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is combined with the Waterpik Sensonic Power Toothbrush, a high amount of foam is created which is undesirable.

The public is or should be aware of all the risks of smoking. From heart disease to lung cancer, there’s nothing to bright for the future’s of smokers. Wait, did I leave out emphysema and a slew of other respiratory diseases?

I think one thing that warnings and scare campaigns are lacking is the fear of the now. What I mean is, when you try to inform, persuade, or scare an 18 year old into not smoking, mentioning all these bad things that can happen 20, 30, even 40 years in the future seems so distant and gives room for thoughts like, “I’ll just quit in a few years before any of that happens”. I believe that informing prospective smokers about the immediate dangers could possibly be way more effective in the war on smoking.

So, what are the immediate, negative effects of smoking?

Rapid Addiction – Think you’re just going to keep your smoking down to “onec-in-a-blue-moon” or what many beginning smokers call “social smoking? Think again. Studies have shown that the very first cigarette you smoke can be powerful enough to start your addiction to smoking. Get ready for extremely powerful cravings and urges to smoke.

Stress – Contrary to popular belief, the fact is smoking causes stress. The constant wanting and needed piled on with smoking becoming less and less socially acceptable (meaning you’ll find yourself in situations where you want a cigarette but can’t have one) is only a small example of how smoking can increase your stress. The reported feelings of relaxation when smoking are actually the results of stress levels returning to normal.

Increased Phlegm – Mucus is manufactured by the lungs to trap toxic or harmful substances. Most cigarettes contain many toxic and harmful substances and checmicals. Thus, when you smoke cigarettes, you will have plenty of phlegm build up. Now, what will you do with all this mucus? Swallow it? Spit it? Gross.

Persistant Coughing – Your body is designed to stay healthy. Smoking is very unhealthy and harmful to your body. coughing is a way for your body to expell toxins and is also a way to alert your brain that something bad is happening.

Immediate inability to perform physically – The human body runs on oxygen. When you smoke, even one cigarette or the very first cigarette, there is an immediate decrease in lung capacity. When performing an activity like running, the performance of a smoker will be less than that of the same person who doesn’t smoke. This is not the case only in long time smokers. This stands true for someone who has just taken up the bad habit of smoking or has possibly only had one cigarette shortly before the physical activity.

Increasing of Heart Rate – A smoker’s heart has to work harder than the heart of the same person who does not smoke. This can lead to a heart attack or stroke at a younger age.

Periodontal Disease, Teeth Yellowing, and Bad Breath – This is one of the main focuses of these immediate effects caused by smoking since this site is a bad breath site. Smoking increases plaque and inflamation of gums which can leat to inner mouth diseases and tooth decay. Bad breath is a result of smoking because it increases bacteria inside the mouth and dries the mouth which causes an optimal breeding ground for plaque and bacteria which can cause bad breath.
